Walmart Wants To Provide Cheap Healthcare

Walmart is taking a step in the right direction for providing more affordable healthcare to the company’s common consumer. They’re motto has always been “Everyday Low Prices,” but the retail giant wants to apply that to healthcare and pharmaceuticals as well. That’s why they have decided to partner with Anthem, one of the largest providers of insurance in the nation.

Walmart has 140 million weekly customers for its low prices on produce, food, clothing, etc. A large majority of these weekly customers are the elderly or members of lower income families. If they can successfully transform all 140 million of those consumers into healthcare users from their store, they can successfully rival other competitors while also providing low-cost health care… something that should be an equal right for all U.S. citizens.

Currently, the services they would provide could include weight counseling, disease management, primary care, and basic medical care. Specifically, Walmart wants to tackle the Medicaid and Medicare markets; therefore, if they take their trusted customer base and give them the best option for health care in the area, it seems like a win-win for both sides of the party.
