Starbucks is planning to offer coffee delivery across the United States in 2020 with the assistance of Uber Eats. The company has officially announced an expansion of its partnership with Uber Eats to make this nationwide service a reality. While Starbucks currently offers deliveries in just 11 cities in the US, the concept of delivering coffee has gained significant traction in both the coffee and delivery sectors.
The collaboration between Starbucks and Uber Eats began in 2018 with test programs in Miami and Tokyo. Later, it expanded to more American cities in January and even reached London. Additionally, deliveries in China were made possible through Ele.me, a platform supported by Alibaba.
Considering that many major cities already have numerous Starbucks locations, starting with Uber Eats in such urban areas where Starbucks presence is dense allows for easier testing and implementation. Starbucks aims to scale its delivery service to encompass 3,000 stores across all 50 states by the fall season. With the current momentum, Starbucks is likely to maintain its pace and continue expanding its delivery service to less densely populated regions. The goal for 2019 is to cover 70% of the US with this delivery service. In a statement, Starbucks Group President and COO Roz Brewer mentioned, “Partnering with Uber Eats helps us take another step towards bringing Starbucks to customers wherever they are.”
