Reporting To Elon Musk Is A Short-Term Job

Tesla executives who report to Elon Musk are reportedly being fired or jumping ship at a rate far higher than executives who report to other big tech CEOs.

Bernstein tracks the employment data of executives reporting to the CEOs of big companies. A recent report by them reveals that turnover in Tesla’s leadership is higher than it is at almost any other company. Bernstein’s data shows that Tesla executives have a turnover rate of 27%, compared with the average rate of 15%. The findings show that Tesla’s turnover rates are similar to those found at young, fast-growing companies out of Silicon Valley. Companies with a similar turnover rate include Snap, Uber, Facebook, and AirBNB.

The implications of this new information may be enough to cause investors to worry. Executives at Tesla have been leaving the company at worryingly high rates during the last few turbulent years at the company. “We can now factually say that Tesla’s executive turnover appears to be high relative to peers, and extremely high in terms of its senior-most executives in the direct line of fire of Musk,” Bernstein reported.
