How To Stay In a Japanese Hotel Room For $1 Per Night

Unique Offer at a Japanese Hotel in Fukuoka

For travelers visiting Fukuoka in Japan, there is a remarkable opportunity to save significantly on accommodation costs. At Asahi Ryokan in Fukuoka, guests can stay for only 100 Yen (around $1) per night, with an interesting twist. The only condition is that guests must consent to have their entire stay live-streamed. Specific guidelines govern the live-streaming process. The live feed exclusively captures video footage, allowing guests to maintain privacy while engaging in conversations with other guests or talking on the phone. Notably, the camera is unable to capture the bathroom area, and guests have the option to turn off the lights to limit the camera’s view.

Despite the offer, only a few individuals have taken advantage of it so far. The concept may deter many, as any inappropriate behaviors are strictly prohibited. Guests are also advised to conceal any sensitive information and ensure documents like passports are kept out of sight. Tetsuya Inoue, the hotel owner, commented, “Young people nowadays are less concerned about privacy.”

Surprisingly, the hotel generates a considerable income from this unique deal. Although $1 per night is exceptionally low for lodging in Japan, the live-streamed videos are broadcast on a YouTube channel with over 1,000 subscribers. With more than 4,000 hours of viewing time to date, advertising earnings help compensate for the reduced room rates.
