Amazon to Close Prime Now App and Website

Amazon Prime is known for its convenience, offering next-day delivery on a wide range of products. In 2014, Amazon introduced Prime Now to provide quick delivery of essentials like groceries within a few hours for an extra fee. However, due to the need for consolidation, Amazon has decided to shut down the standalone Prime Now app and site.

According to Stephenie Landry, Amazon’s Vice President of Grocery, the goal is to enhance customer experience by merging Prime Now into the main Amazon app and website. This change will allow customers to access all Amazon services in one place.

By the end of 2021, all functions and products available on the Prime Now app and site will be integrated into the standard Amazon platform.

Stephenie Landry shared that the idea for Prime Now was conceived in 2014 as a way to provide last-minute items to customers within an hour, internally named “Houdini.” In a remarkably short time, the project was brought to life, laying the foundation for Amazon’s rapid grocery and same-day delivery services.

The discontinuation of Prime Now is part of Amazon’s strategy to streamline its services, following the earlier closure of Prime Pantry and a cashier-less Amazon Go Grocery location.
