Uber’s Latest Job Cuts Reach Over 300 Employees

Uber recently laid off more than 300 employees in its third round of layoffs this year.

The most recent job cuts at Uber impacted positions at Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group (ATG), the division responsible for self-driving cars. Business Insider reported that Uber Eats, performance marketing, and recruiting will also see upcoming changes. The announcement was made in an email sent by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi to all Uber employees. The email stated, “As you know, over the past few months, our leaders have reviewed their teams to ensure our organizations are set up for success in the coming years.”

Uber currently employs approximately 27,000 people worldwide. Some Uber employees have anonymously shared their frustrations on the workplace chat app, Blind. Multiple employees who spoke to Business Insider or posted on Blind expressed feelings of frustration and, in some cases, betrayal. One discontented employee wrote, “Marketing personnel who were assured they were part of the solution in July are now being let go. Our leaders plainly deceived us about our positions. This is not acting ethically.” While there is evident frustration among the staff, some Uber employees have acknowledged that they were not surprised by the news.

In the previous rounds of layoffs, Uber cut 400 jobs in July, mainly focusing on marketing roles that impacted employees globally. This was followed by 435 layoffs in product and engineering roles in September.
