The famed investor has finally replaced his flip phone.
Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and one of the richest individuals globally, has never had an iPhone. His preferred mobile device was the Samsung SCH-U320, a flip phone launched in 2010, often found on eBay for about $20. Despite owning a significant stake in Apple, around 5.5%, Buffett has expressed that he primarily uses his phone for calls. In 2018, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook humorously mentioned that if Buffett were to buy an iPhone, he would personally visit Omaha to help set it up. Now, it seems Cook may need to make good on that offer.
Buffett revealed today that he has bought his very first smartphone, an iPhone 11. Despite its advanced features, Buffett remains focused on its basic function: making calls.
“You’re looking at an 89-year-old guy who’s just starting to catch up,” he remarked, indicating that he doesn’t utilize all the phone’s features like most people.
Buffett has utilized Apple devices before, such as an iPad for stock monitoring and research. However, he stuck with the same flip phone for at least ten years. Buffett holds Apple in high regard, describing it as “probably the best business I know in the world.” As of the start of this year, his company owns more than 245 million Apple shares, valued at about $72 billion.
