Live streaming of Netflix and YouTube is soon to be available in Tesla vehicles, as announced by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Elon Musk has always discussed the idea of integrating in-car displays for entertainment purposes in Tesla vehicles. In the next phase of Tesla’s advancement, their cars will be capable of live streaming from Netflix and YouTube. Tesla has already unveiled games for drivers such as Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter and classic Atari games. These games can only be accessed when the car is parked, and the steering wheel acts as the game controller. Once authorities approve self-driving technology, passengers will be able to watch streamed content while the car is in autonomous mode.
The internal displays of Tesla cars do not support HTML5, which means browsing the internet casually is not possible. There is a noticeable demand for these updates, as many people would likely prefer to watch a movie while their car navigates traffic during rush hour instead of driving themselves. However, there are legitimate safety concerns associated with this development. Currently, test self-driving vehicles are mandated to have a driver prepared to take control in case of emergencies. Even with advancements in self-driving technology, addressing these safety worries completely may take time. Presently, there are no fully autonomous vehicles legally operational in the US, but this is expected to change soon in what could be the next significant technological revolution.
