# US Pushes for UK Huawei 5G Ban
A delegation from the US has arrived in the UK to urge the British government to ban Huawei equipment from being used in building 5G networks.
Huawei is preparing to start installing its equipment in the UK by the end of January. Despite the ongoing plans for implementing Huawei’s 5G technology, British Security Minister Brandon Lewis mentioned that a verdict on this issue will be reached “relatively soon.”
The UK is currently deliberating on whether to cooperate with Huawei in establishing its 5G infrastructure. On one hand, working with Huawei could further strengthen the UK’s ties with China, and industry leaders in British telecommunications have cautioned that prohibiting Huawei equipment could lead to significant financial losses. On the other hand, the US has raised concerns that Huawei equipment might be utilized for espionage purposes.
The UK finds itself in a dilemma due to the strained relations between the US and China. The UK’s defense minister revealed that President Donald Trump has warned of cutting back on intelligence sharing with the UK if Huawei is allowed to deploy its equipment in the country. However, British officials have confirmed that Huawei’s equipment will not be incorporated into networks involved in intelligence sharing. The British defense minister emphasized the transparency of these decisions and reassured that they will be considered when the government collectively makes a final determination on the matter.
