Traveling Smart & Saving Money While Having Fun

Have you ever really wanted to travel, but thought that it would be too expensive? Well, you wouldn’t be wrong, especially if you planned on flying overseas. Of course, there are cheap ways to travel, but how do you balance cost and comfort so you don’t end up sleeping in a cave to save money?

Now, when it comes to the journey itself, we all know plane tickets can cost a lot. However, you may be surprised how far you can go for so little money. The best place to start if you are unsure of the destination is… the internet, of course! You can get comparisons of ticket prices for nearly every possible destination, and fly there. Try using a service like Skyscanner or Google Flights to find the cheapest destination city. The results are not always what you may assume; a longer flight to Tokyo can be far cheaper than a much shorter flight to Madrid, depending on the airport you are departing from.

When it comes to the cost of reaching a destination, you can determine most of your expenses ahead of time. Services like SkyScanner will tell you where it is cheaper to fly to and when, while buses and tours can be arranged in advance. When it comes to where you want to stay, there are plenty of new options available to you, depending on your budget. If you want to spend a lot of money and stay in a nice room, you can call the old fashioned way or use Booking.com. If you are willing to sacrifice some comforts for the sake of your bank account, apps like Airbnb, Couchsurfing, and Hostelworld have great platforms with review systems for quality assurance. If you do choose to use one of the accommodations apps, be sure to take the review system seriously, as the dynamic is completely different from arranging a night at a fancy hotel.
