Grab a Meal and Allow Your Brain to Rest for a Moment.
We previously talked about the issue of burnout from working at home, but one crucial aspect we overlooked was the importance of lunch breaks. In traditional workplaces, lunch breaks are usually more structured – you have a set amount of time, may have limitations on how far you can go, and often, your activities are restricted to a quick meal before returning to work. However, the situation becomes a bit more blurred when working remotely.
On the surface, having the autonomy to regulate your own lunch break seems appealing, right? No one is monitoring your every move to make sure you return to work promptly. Yet, without a designated time for a lunch break, you may be tempted to skip it altogether. While working through lunch might seem like a way to be more productive and quickly return to enjoyable activities nearby, it is essential to always take a proper break, even if it’s not strictly scheduled.
If you opt to forgo lunch during the day, your brain will miss out on vital sugars and calories needed to function optimally. This can make work more challenging later in the day if you’re already feeling drained. It’s advisable not to eat while working and instead take a proper break away from your desk. One benefit of more flexible breaks is that, apart from stretching and refueling, you can also engage in other activities for a few minutes. This could include gentle stretching, starting a load of laundry, or simply watching a brief cartoon. Any non-work-related activity can help rejuvenate you. However, remember that you are still technically working, so don’t get too carried away with leisure activities.
When working remotely, it’s crucial to establish your own set of rules and boundaries. It’s essential to prioritize your health while ensuring that you fulfill your work duties. Just like in other aspects of life, finding the right balance is key.
