Define Your Own Happiness
According to Miriam-Webster, “success” is described as a “favorable or desired outcome.” This definition is broad because the concept of success varies from one individual to another. While some equate success with extravagant possessions like mansions and luxury cars, to me, success is having a stable job, a tidy home, and overall contentment. The key takeaway is that personal success should not be gauged by external standards.
Some individuals possess an insatiable drive for constant achievement. If you have this ambition and the necessary skills, aim for the stars. However, one does not need immense wealth to achieve success or happiness. Success is not a one-size-fits-all concept.
Why does defining success matter? Understanding what success means to you is akin to setting a personal goal. As humans, having aspirations gives us purpose. Pursuing these goals helps establish professional standards and boundaries. Even if society views striving for anything less than the ultimate peak of your career as failure, remember that contentment and fulfillment at any point in your journey signify success, irrespective of others’ opinions.
I’m not suggesting you limit yourself. If you desire more, go for it. You have the capability. However, if you find satisfaction in your current position, there’s no pressure to constantly strive for more. This isn’t quitting; it’s being realistic.
