Subway’s (Not So) Five Dollar Footlong

“Five..Five Dollar…Five Dollar Foot-Looongggg!” The catchy jingle from years past that has been stuck in our brains for what feels like forever is about to become irrelevant. Despite the fact that I cannot remember the last time I went into a Subway and actually paid 5 dollars for a foot long sub, the fast food chain is officially ditching the five dollar deal across its stores…

But not all of them! Starting this September (A.K.A the month we are in right now) each location is going to have the option of whether or not they would like to have a five dollar deal. Ever since the deal was made over a decade ago, stores have reported net losses and have been shutting down across the U.S. Many of the managers complained that the price point was too low for any profit to be made, so they instinctively increased the price to 6 dollars in recent years.

Most of the locations that continue the deal will only offer it on a select variation of sandwiches, which isn’t a bad deal at all. The main problem is going to be getting the jingle and slogan out of our head. We’re so used to saying and singing “five dollar footlong” that I guarantee people will continue to try and order them despite their discontinuation.
