During an interview with Cointelegraph at the Surfin’ Bitcoin 2022 event in France, Prince Philip expressed his enthusiasm for Bitcoin, noting its potential impact on children’s education worldwide. As a self-proclaimed Bitcoin maximalist, the prince mentioned that his upcoming keynote speech at the crypto conference would focus on highlighting the advantages of Bitcoin to both insiders and outsiders of the industry.
Prince Philip emphasized the importance of educating children about Bitcoin and the history of money, criticizing the current state of education. He shared an anecdote about his four-year-old son, Stefan, showing interest in Bitcoin by observing his father’s discussions about it.
“He’s trying to get an idea of what Bitcoin is. He understands that there’s Bitcoin and his father likes to talk about it.”
Filip Karađorđević, also known as Philip Karageorgevitch, the Hereditary Prince of Serbia and Yugoslavia, echoed concerns about the lack of education regarding cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Prince Philip playfully mentioned his attempt to build a sandcastle during the event, which was accidentally destroyed by a passerby. He previously stated that Bitcoin adoption would become inevitable in countries where Islam is practiced, referring to it as “perfect Sharia money.”
While Prince Philip is a well-known public figure due to his title, he gained recognition in the crypto community after expressing his view on Bitcoin as a symbol of freedom. He attended the Bitcoin Miami conference in 2022 but noted that he did not have the authority to declare Bitcoin as legal tender like El Salvador did in September 2021.
