Real Kungfu, a well-known Chinese fast food chain, is facing a lawsuit from Bruce Lee Enterprises, managed by Shannon Lee, the daughter of Bruce Lee. The lawsuit alleges that Real Kungfu has been using Bruce Lee’s image in their branding without permission. Bruce Lee Enterprises is seeking $30 million in damages and demanding the immediate removal of Bruce Lee’s likeness from Real Kungfu’s logo, which is currently featured in over 600 locations in China.
Shannon Lee’s company, Bruce Lee Enterprises, handles the licensing and merchandising of the iconic Bruce Lee brand. The legal action against Real Kungfu comes almost three decades after the restaurant chain was established. Real Kungfu expressed surprise at the lawsuit, stating that they are confused by the timing of the legal challenge since their branding had been approved by local authorities and China’s national trademark agency.
In response to the allegations, Real Kungfu mentioned that they are actively reviewing the case and preparing their defense against the claims made by Bruce Lee Enterprises.
