A planned live discussion on X featuring Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump faced significant technical problems, causing a delay of more than 40 minutes and impacting users worldwide.
The conversation touched on various topics such as immigration, inflation, and recent political events but was frequently inaccessible to viewers as Mr. Musk initially attributed it to a supposed “massive DDoS attack on X.”
Despite Mr. Musk’s claim, cybersecurity experts have cast doubt on the idea that a DDoS attack caused the disruptions. Anthony Lim, the Director of the Centre for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies, suggested that a sudden increase in user traffic could have overwhelmed the system instead of a deliberate attack.
Despite facing technical challenges, both speakers managed to have a thorough discussion covering critical issues like national security, education, and the upcoming presidential election, with the backdrop of Vice President Kamala Harris emerging as a strong Democratic candidate.
The X team is currently investigating the incident to determine the root cause of the problem and is committed to ensuring the reliability of its platform for future live events.
An X spokesperson mentioned, “We apologize for any inconvenience our users experienced and are actively working on improving our system to handle high traffic levels during major events.”
