Choosing the right place to live is crucial for those with disabilities.
With one in four American adults facing disabilities that impact their daily lives, choosing the right city can significantly affect their quality of life. WalletHub conducted a comprehensive study to determine which cities are most accommodating to people with disabilities. They considered various factors such as the availability of medical professionals, economic opportunities, and more. The study aimed to emphasize that while both disabled and non-disabled individuals benefit from similar aspects of life, their priorities might differ. Some regions in the US might not offer the same support for disabled individuals due to insufficient medical resources, limited job prospects, or high living costs. Moving to a more disability-friendly city could enhance the quality of life for those facing such challenges.
Ranked at the top of the list is Overland Park, KS, known as the most disability-friendly city in the US. Following closely are Scottsdale, AZ, Peoria, AZ, Tampa, FL, and St. Petersburg, FL. These cities excelled across all 21 metrics analyzed in the study. Notably, these top cities share a warm climate, a factor considered in the rankings. It’s essential to note that the study focused on America’s 150 largest cities. While progress is still needed to make major metropolitan areas more disability-friendly, positive changes are occurring, especially in regions like the Midwest.
