How to Rescue Your Interview !!
Seemingly out of nowhere strange interview questions like “if you were an animal which one would you want to be” or “tell me about your most awkward moment” are becoming surprisingly popular among hiring managers. As if the interview process wasn’t stressful enough right?
So, what do you do when an interviewer wants to hear about your most creative Halloween costume or what you like to do in your spare time?
Well, these four tricks will help you to avoid those deer in the headlights look.
- Smile: If you’re trying to avoid that deer in the headlights look then smiling goes a long way. It makes you look appealing and gives you some time to think about what you’re going to say. But remember, don’t smile for too long.
- Buy some time if necessary: Of course just because you maybe ready and willing doesn’t mean that you have a response that second.
- Answer enthusiastically: Since these questions almost never have a right answer the key to responding well is mainly about answering enthusiastically and coherently, not just about what the content is of your answer.
- Ask a follow up question: Believe it or not a great way to wrap up a response is to see how others or even the interviewer themselves has answered the question when asked unexpectedly. For example, you could always ask for some of the best responses to that question that the interviewer has ever heard.
